History of the refrigerators are as interesting as the function of the machinery. Speaking about history of the refrigerators, the first thing that must be mentioned is that the term 'refrigerator' came from the word freeze. The appliance was given such name as its main purpose was to maintain a freezing temperature to keep the condition of foods unchanged.
William Cullen is one of the most important names in the history of the refrigerators because he was the first man to demonstrate artificial refrigeration process. He did it at the University of Glasgow in the year 1748. in the year 1805, Oliver Evans, an American inventor designed the refrigeration machine and in the year 1834, Jacob Perkins became the first man to built the practical refrigeration machine. Speaking about history of the refrigerators, one must not forget to mention the contribution of John Gorrie, because he was the man to build a refrigerator based on the designs of Oliver Evans in the year 1844. a physician by profession, John Gorrie was the first man to built refrigerator with the capacity of making ice to cool the air. Later in the year 1876, German engineer Carl von Linden patented the process of liquidizing gas which is also a very important part of basic refrigeration technology.
