History of vaccum cleaners is very interesting and the way the manufacturing process of this machine has been developed is an important part of its history. Speaking about history of the vaccum cleaners, first of all we need to mention the name of W Mcgaffey. It was long back in the year 1868 that McGaffey invented the first manually-operated cleaning machine using vaccum principles. Named as 'Whirlwind', the machine was lightweight but its operation was not easy because hand crank was needed to be turned while pushing it across the floor. McGaffey got patent for his Whirlwind in the year 1869 and The American Carpet Cleaning Co of Boston came forward for its promotion in the market. In those days, plenty of Whirlwind machines were sold in Boston and Chicago. But how most of those machines were destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire in 1871 is also an important part of history of the vaccum cleaners.
The year 1901 is also very important in history of the vaccum cleaners. It was on August 30 of that year that a British engineer named Hubert Cecil Booth received patent for a vaccum cleaner. Hubert Booth demonstrated the power and capability of his washing machines in a restaurant. Later two Americans brought some variations on the same mechanism. A person named Corrine Dufor invented another vaccum cleaner with the capability of sucking dust into a wet sponge. On the other hand David E Kenny's large machine was installed in the cellar and was connected to a network of several pipes
