The advanced life, technology and easy way of dealing with complex processes have been made possible only with the electronic devices simply known to the world as Computers. These are intriguing machines which have been brain child of geniuses and those who could think of complicated circuits in simple manners. They turned mere machines into equipments and appliances that turned out to become one of modern and fast paced man’s companions. You can carry them in pockets, wear them on wrists or simply put them in bags or place them in offices and homes – no matter what you do; computers can easily adapt themselves in various environments. Long history, investments, inventions and hard work of engineers went behind the formation and development of the computers we see today, all around us.
Computers are very different from calculators as they can store large sized data, process and execute commands with the help of typical instructions. These are extremely advanced appliances which can be used in large scaled industries through complicated systems, or as laptops or simply as personal computers. Computers do not understand human languages and therefore, when instructions are enters in different languages, they are transformed into the computer language called ‘binary’ which primarily comprises of only two digits, i.e. 0 and 1. The commands that tell the computers what to do and what not to do are called computer programs. The data thus transformed are stored in the memory of the computers called the RAM or Random Access Memory. On broader zones, the computers work through the help of two primary elements that is – hardware and software, where the former is the tangible parts of the device such as monitor, CPU, ALU, mouse and others. The latter is the intangible programs that provides the computer with all the major instructions and enable users to make use of the device in the easiest way possible. Besides these widely known computers, there are also embedded computers which can be found in robots, fighter aircrafts, children’s toys and digital cameras.
