Have you ever thought of life without the presence of electric fans in the everyday use? Yes, air conditioners to a great extent have been able to replace fans, but only in certain areas. Air conditioners till today have remained an appliance found mostly in the upper-class and upper middle-class homes, whereas electric fans has maintained its stance as the most cost effective way of beating the heat especially for those who cannot or do not wish to splurge on luxurious items. Basically, electric fans are devices which generate air flow for different reasons such as ventilation, providing comfort in the heat, exhausting in a particular space and others, through the assistance of electricity, which provides the energy to the fans.
The electric fans are composed mainly of vane or vanes that rotate by the application of electricity, to produce airflow or air currents. However, one must remember that fans do not lower the temperature of a particular area but only provides a rift of air that can control the climate considerably, ventilate or engage in other purpose. Fans can be seen placed on tables, hanging from ceilings, used inside hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners and other places. Initially fans were only in the form of the punkahs operated manually, but with the coming of the electricity invented by Thomas Edison, these fans took different shapes. Today, fans can be categorized as Axial Fans which comprise of table fans, ceiling fans, computer fan and those found in automobiles; Centrifugal fan makes use of centrifugal force which produces great pressure and air force and cross flow fan which makes use of a squirrel cage rotor with central hollow and blades placed on the periphery (used mostly in air conditioners).
